Japan plugs in electric cars

Japanese drivers will be among the first in the world to be able to plug their cars in to charge at the side of the road.
Hundreds of quick charge points are being built in and around Tokyo, Tokyo Electric Power developing a recharging station that should be able to quick charge electrically powered cars.
A five minute stop would be enough for a 40km (25 mile) charge, with ten minutes enough to deliver 60kms (37 miles) worth of power - plenty of range for typical commuter journeys.
The infrastructure is being implemented to charge electric vehicles offered by Japan's mainstream manufacturers, Mitsubishi and Subaru due to introduce plug-in vehicles within the next 12 months.
Japan hopes to see at least 3,000 electric cars on its streets within the next five years, the government encouraging reduced parking costs, cheaper financing an even lower insurance for early adopters of electric vehicles.
The charging stations will be positioned prominently in car parks, supermarkets and restaurants and will provide power to users for free.
The charging points are among many steps in Japan's aim to dramatically reduce its CO2 emissions, the country aiming to have half of all vehicles alternatively powered by 2010.
The electric cars on offer to Japanese customers include Mitsubishi's MiEV, Mitsubishi UK lobbying its Japanese parent hard to bring the electric city car to Great Britain.

New road tax set to devalue used cars

Industry car value experts, CAP and Parkers, have criticised the government for its confirmed retrospective tax increases, which could see the value of used cars drop by as much as £1,000.

There is no dispute with taxing new car buyers for choosing a high polluting vehicle, but the new scheme has been widely condemned for penalising buyers for decisions made in the past.

Not only will owners of older polluting cars suffer from a significant increase in vehicle excise duty, but they could also find that their cars are completely unsellable, with owners of cars bought between 2001 and 2006 predicted to see total loss in value in the region of £800 million.

Worst hit will be large automatic family cars - even though they are probably owned by poorer drivers without the resources to trade-in their vehicles for cleaner and greener alternatives.

When the new scheme was originally discussed, Prime Minister Gordon Brown suggested that the majority of car owners would be better off, but figures now indicate that this was a misleading statement, and as many as 80% of drivers could be penalised.

Buy Cadillac from Reservoir Dogs

Fans of Reservoir Dogs have the chance to own a big piece of the film's memorabilia as Mr Blond's Cadillac is up for sale.

The 1966 Cadillac DeVille is up for grabs in an online auction and the lucky buyer also gets to meet Michael Madsen, who played the psychopathic Mr Blond.

Madsen will sign the car anywhere the auction winner wants to prove that it was his car.

The Caddy was bought by Madsen before Reservoir Dogs was filmed and he volunteered to use it as Mr Blond's transport.

After the film, the car then sat in a garage for 14 years and now Madsen has decided to sell.

The car has been completely refurbished and Madsen will even include a DVD of Reservoir Dogs, though the kidnapped policeman in the boot has now been removed.

The 2008 shirk Challenger debuted at the 2008 Chicago sedan Show, but last week was the first time I had a fortune to take it out for a spin on the streets. This car gets better-looking every time I see it. Its ranks are stretch out of 1970, from the pinched fencing and curved movelights to the slender spoiler and thick-tail reverse. Too much hard false on the dash and not enough metal and firewood. Im also amazed at the extent of the front seats and their boundary bolsters. But disregard about the inboundary. The long cover with racing stripes and air vents adds a scowl that will make any other car on the path look like a kitten. Theres a ample set of photos below. Dodge Expects V-6 to Power Almost Half of Challengers. 1.

Spurred by high gas prices, Dodge unexpectedly sped the introduction of a V-6 version of the 2009 Challenger, a model that could account for 40% or more of Challenger sales. The Challenger SE, powered by a 3.5-liter V-6, joined the much-anticipated 2009 Challenger R/T which uses a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 on stage at the New York auto show. Come fall 2008, those versions will join the current Challenger SRT8, which has a 6.1-liter version of the Hemi V-8 and is the sole trim level available as a 2008. While Dodge expects the R/T trim level to be the volume seller, Bryan Zvibelman, Chrysler Group's manager of car, minivan and truck product communications, says the model's appeal is broad enough to attract buyers who are less interested in speed.

The typical routine for covering an auto show goes something like this:
Fly to the destination
Stuff a dirty cab with editors, photographers, and video producers along with all of their gear and carry-on luggage filled with wrinkled suits
Arrive at a hotel, which is really just a place to work, rest for a few hours, work, shower, and work
Prepare for the following day's debuts
Sleep for a few hours
Grab a quick morning shower, followed by another dirty ride to the [enter name here] Convention Center
Attend press conference after press conference, bumping and sometimes shoving your colleagues to get a better view of the stage or closer to that prized press kit, and subsequently dash to the media room (on the other end of the building, up a broken escalator and past a security guard who just has to see your special wrist band each and every time you enter), where you will perform a brain dump of all vehicle-related information you've just absorbed, go through countless steps to get the article onto the interwebs, and then fight 100 journalists for one of 15 mini sandwiches quietly delivered to the far end of the room. Why? Cuz they're free.

Unless, that is, you're attending the Chicago Auto Show, where the wind whips you like a caffeinated jockey, the forecast calls for snow measured in feet, the cold air plays this little game called frostbite, and the show floor is decorated with plow trucks and wreckers. But come on, people -- this is Chicago. Those aren't show cars, they're a contingency plan.

New 2007 Dodge Magnum


A carry-over from 2006, the Magnum is a four-door five-passenger family sport wagon offered in four trim levels. The SE features a 2.7-liter V6 that produces 190 horsepower, the SXT with a 3.5-liter V6 that outputs 250 horsepower, the RT with a 5.7-liter V8 rated at 340 horsepower, or the SRT8 that has a powerful 6.1-liter V8 with 425 horsepower and a five-speed automatic transmission.
